Because you don't know what you don't know. You may be training in a place offering high-quality martial arts training. Someone else is training in a place just as good or better...in a very different way. If you just want to get better at your particular sport or discipline and you are in a quality training environment, then you are good to go. But if you want to expand your horizons and become a truly well-rounded martial artist capable of handling yourself against completely unpredictable and uncooperative opponents in real violent situations, you have to venture out into new terrain where you will have the opportunity to encounter things that you've never seen before. New problems to solve. This network provides organized opportunities for you to do just that. We welcome you to join the movement.
Many combat sports gyms cross-train quite often. We welcome MMA practitioners but this network is specifically inspired by the void that we see among traditional martial artists, who often do little to no pressure testing against martial artists from other styles. Many of us sincerely want to grow as martial artists and yet have no interest in picking fights in the street or entering competitions. This network is a space for us to come together without all of the hoopla. No crowds. No prizes. No egos. Just martial artists, "martial arting" together.

Sparringclub.com was founded as a community resource, not a profit-generating business. Of course, we’d like to be able to cover our expenses at some point so we may offer products and services. There is a small RSVP fee for some sessions that goes towards us promoting and expanding our local sparring club network. Our one and only mission is to create a network of responsibly managed local sparring clubs that offer martial artists opportunities to test their skills and continue growing. Our pledge is to keep our online community free to join and our network of local clubs accessible to all sincere, formally trained martial artists seeking to invest in their growth.
